Headaches are a Big Headache

Lately, the common question has been how to get rid of headaches. I use to suffer from migraines all the time. However, below are a few quick tips in the natural healing department which you all may find useful:

I use to suffer migraines all the time. I began by increasing my water
intake to assist with dehydration issues and then take a hot (hot as I
can stand) rag with a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil and lay it
across my head. In 10 minutes, I'm as good as new.

To prevent headaches after a long day, I get an old pot, place some
water in it, a few drops of sage oil, bring to boiling, then turn it
off and let the aroma fill the home. It does wonders for me at least.

In addition, I began practicing hydrotherapy by placing a little
lavandar oil in hot bath water, elevating my legs at 45 degree angle,
close the eyes and stay in there until water begins to cool. You will
be very relaxed (best at nite), stress free. However, you will
perspire alot which is fine as it's releasing the toxins but you should
have a glass of water with a little lemon in it. I normally consume a
quart while in a bath like that. Hope this helps.

Naturally Living or Living Naturally

Welcome Everyone,

I'm glad to be back and posting on our new topic as promised in my last blog. My main reason for moving in this new direction was based on overwhelming response to my previous blogs, Passionate About Home. If you were following, you read my tips on redecorating the home with less stress and less expense. It seemed that many of you really enjoyed the various tips I mentioned in relieving stress, so here we go.

What can you expect from the new blog topic of Naturally Living or Living Naturally? You can expect to read various ideas relating to aromatherapy, massage, hydrotherapy, nutrition tips and more. Please keep in mind that I'm not a professional nor do I recommend my tips replacing your medical treatment. I am providing information and tips that have worked for me and that just makes sense. Please consult your medical professional if you are thinking of making drastic dietary changes.

So, without further delay, it seems only right to start my 1st topic off with nutrition. Now, please understand, I'm one of the least health conscience (or at least I was) people in the world. So, if I tell you something made a difference in my life, trust me, it really did. But, the one thing that made me move toward nutrition first was my latest trip to the grocery store. I'm telling you, when I walked out of that store and $180 out of pocket, I was simply livid.

I'm sure everyone is feeling like that right about now and can understand my anger. The grocery store actually charged more for fresh, non organic produce than anything. A cucumber cost $1.99 per cucumber, not per pound. Fruit was simply ridiculous and since when did potatoes get to be so high? So, with that said I began thinking, why not grow my own veggies and fruit?

It's healthier, cheaper and lots of fun. But, I'm a city girl and know absolutely nothing about gardening. Plus, I did not want to be outside planting but would prefer to do it indoors. So, how was I going to start? Well, I simply went on a favorite site of mine at http://astore.amazon.com/styliempor-20/search?node=118&keywords=vegetable+seeds&preview=&x=8&y=7 and purchased 20 packs of seeds for a total of $8.

But that still wasn't enough to show me how to grow a garden. So, I needed a guide of some sort. I did a little research and came across a book entitled The Indoor Kitchen Garden: Vegetable Growing in Limited Space by Joy O. I. Spoczynska and found it at http://astore.amazon.com/styliempor-20/search?node=18&keywords=indoor+vegetable+gardening&preview=&x=15&y=7 for $3.00. So, I purchased that. In addition, I needed pots. Now if you are familiar with my previous blogs, you know that I'm a lover of all things beautiful, so my pots had to be pretty but inexpensive. In addition, I felt that the pots could be something small to start my seeds out in and I could upgrade to larger as they grew and still continue to reuse the starter pots. So, my quest for pots took me to http://www.stylistemporium.com/blbablpo.html (be sure to see the pictures below).

These pots were so cute and it came 3 to a set at a price that was excellent and well within my budget. So, I purchased 2 sets at $7.99 per set to start out with. I could always get more as I became familiar with how to garden. And, finally my soil was purchased at http://astore.amazon.com/styliempor-20/detail/B001693Y3Y . It was Hoffman A H #16002 8QT Vermiculite, which specifically stated that it could be used as a starter for seeds.

Now, I'm not sure if there is some weird law about selling soil on-line, but this was actually the most difficult thing to find out of all. However, the soil only cost me approx. $5. And that was it, or less than a trip to the grocery store, I was about to embark upon a journey to not only saving money, but better health and nutrition.

However, I really wanted to make sure that the seeds I purchased served as some type of nutritional value. So, I began researching a little and of course resorted to my favorite book Heal Thyself for Health and Longevity http://astore.amazon.com/styliempor-20/detail/1886433763 . Since the cucumber was the main reason that I began this journey, I saw it only fitting that the cucumber be my first seeds to plants. And, that it also be the first item I educate myself on regarding nutritional value.

Upon reading in my book regarding cucumbers, I found out that it is a great source for green vegetables (cucumbers are actually considered fruits). And, green veggies help restore blood, tissues, cells, nerves and bones. In addition, green veggies are high in calcium, reduces stress, prevents and eliminates disease such as high blood pressure, mental depression, and arthritis. In addition, green veggies serve as great beauty tonics, creating radiant skin, elimination of blemishes, clear eyes and even tone. So, the cucumber was indeed a friend In addition, it broke down and extracted great juice.

In addition, the cucumber has the following nutritious values:
Nutritive Values : Per 100 gm
Vitamin A 180 I.U.
Niacin Trace
Vitamin C 9 mg.
Calcium 32 mg.
Iron 1.8 mg.
Phosphorus 27 mg.
Potassium 80 mg.
Carbohydrates 17 gm.
Calories 70

But these other health benefits alone were enough to sell me:
Cucumber is best natural diuretic known, secreting and promoting the flow of urine.
Helps in kidney and urinary bladder disease
The potassium content of cucumber makes it highly useful for conditions of high and low blood pressure.
Cucumber contains erepsin, the enzyme that helps to digest protein.
The high silicon and sulphur content of the cucumber is said to promote the growth of hair, especially when the juice of the cucumber is added to the juice of carrot, lettuce and spinach.
A mixture of cucumber juice with carrot juice is said to be beneficial for rheumatic conditions resulting from excessive uric acid in the body.
Cucumber juice is also valuable for helping diseases of the teeth, gums, especially in cases of pyorrhea.
The high mineral content of this vegetable also helps to prevent splitting of nails of the fingers and toes.
Cucumber, radish and bitter gourd are beneficial in diabetes.

So, there you have it. I forged ahead and planted my cucumber seeds. Of course this journey is a recent one, so to make this more fun, I'm going to give an update with each log on how my cucumber seeds are doing. And, if anyone has any advice, feel free to jump in and let me know.

In addition, I'm challenging everyone to start their own indoor garden and report on it. Basically, the price of food has gotten outrageous, thus for self preservation and health, we can only make a change if we act on injustices. It is my firm belief (my opinion only), that the reason produce is becoming so high is due to it's increasing popularity and the knowledge that consumers are gaining regarding the benefits of veggies and fruits. Thus, there goes the prices, but the sad part is, these are not even the organic produce that they are skyrocketing on. These are the chemically enhanced products.

So, again, I challenge everyone to grow a garden indoors, save money and your health. Are you naturally living or living naturally? Be sure to go to some of the resources included herein and at the bottom of this blog to assist you in getting started. Don't forget to come back and let us know how you are doing and to get more tips. In addition, you can always join our group at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/stylistemporium/, where you can read this blog, meet and chat with other group members and share ideas.

Until next time, when I update you on my cucumber and move to my next seed planting, thank you for reading and have fun planting. My next log will focus more on the other green veggies I'm planting and their nutritious values. Be sure to view the resources below for assistance.

Bedroom to Haven

http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?yhst-17518688555154+TdtykK+index.html

Good Morning Everyone,

Hopefully by now everyone has ad the chance to read my last article on redecorating your bathroom and making it your place of relaxation. But, we hope that it wasn't so comfy that you moved in there.

However, your bedroom might just be that place. I love the bedroom, but one particular problem I found was turning it into that special haven without the expense. A bedroom in my opinion has to certainly reflect the person you are. Ask yourself a few questions such as, is it your romantic get away? Is it your place to just escape? Does it serve as a functioning office/bedroom?

Depending on your answer to the aforementioned questions, that will be the personality your bedroom takes. However, once again I can not stress enough how clutter creates stress.

I was a person that just put everything in my room. I love clothes, always working on some paper or another, constantly reading and so the story goes. I would go home and take my clothes and throw them in the closet or shove them in the drawers and then struggle in the morning trying to find something for work.

However, after reading my favorite book Heal Thyself for Health and Longevity, I discovered that if my home was my temple, just as my body is my temple, I was being destructive to my temples and that my bedroom is actually my throne. Therefore, I needed to treat it as such.

My first step in ridding the room of clutter was simply hanging up my clothes and color coding them in my closet and drawers. I went and purchased some plastic bins, and neatly folded all out of season clothing and placed them under my bed. Out of site out of mind really does work.

As previously mentioned, my love for beautiful things simply envelops me. And, just as I mentioned previously, colors make all the difference in the world. So, after organizing, then came time to strategies about my throne. I love purple and green and wanted very much to keep it in accordance to my bathroom decor and colors. Primarily because my bathroom was in my bedroom, but also because the colors in my bathroom have done wonders for my mental state. So, once again the green and purple combination called out to me.

My primary concern was how to display my personality in my bedroom at an inexpensive cost. Bedroom decorating can be very expensive with the comforters, window treatments and so forth. So, I decided to let my creativity take a new twist. Most of us have sheets that we really don't use. My favorites are flannel sheets because they provide warmth and comfort and because they are inexpensive.

So, I took two of my lavender flannel sheets, and one pastel green flannel sheet, making sure they were older one's I really did not use much. I cut the green sheet into inch wide and 5 inch long strips. Once I had about 30 strips cut, I tied two of them together in the middle making sure they were tight. Then, took a needle and lavender thread and sewed them onto one lavender flannel sheet. After tacking the 15 tied strips onto the lavender sheet, I took an old comforter, ripped it open and removed the stuffing. I then placed the stuffing in between the 2 lavender flannel sheets and used fabric glue to seal all edges and corners. This is for the non sewer like myself.

After letting it dry for a couple of days, I purchased some ivory lace and once again, glued the lace on both sides of my lavender comforter and when I was finished, I had a new comforter in the exact colors I wanted. In addition, it reflected beauty and had the unique quality of a hand made quilt. My final touches to it was sewing thru the middle of the ties all the way thru to the bottom sheet and back up to the middle of the ties to avoid slippage of the comforter stuffing I had placed in the middle.

Satisfied with my new comforter, I then used the rest of the pastel green flannel sheet to cover my pillows. In addition, the other half on my pastel green flannel sheet set was cut evenly around the edges and used as a dust ruffle.

However, there was still work to do. So, while waiting for the comforter to dry from the fabric glue I used, I decided to work on the rest of my room. As a lover of art, music and books, I decided I needed that part of me in my room. But, I did not want it to look like I had stepped into a museum or something. My 14 year old daughter has an artistic talent that makes me cry over the beauty and detail she always manages to capture. My other daughter who just turned 12 today has a fashion eye that a designer would die for. And, as previously mentioned in an earlier blog, we as parents save all the little art from school, all the little affections and tokens of love our kids give us, so I knew I had more than enough to do something with.

Working in the motion picture industry also meant I was constantly getting posters for whatever production I was a part of, needless to say my collection was abundant. And, the beauty of it was, the movie posters were always presented to me mounted and framed. So, while so many of them were sitting tucked away in a hall closet, I pulled them all out and dismantled them. I then took all the pictures my 14 year old had ever done in her freestyle drawing and placed them in the frames and glass and put them back together. I placed all her black and white sketched art in one frame and all the pictures in which she had colored with paints of lavender, purples and greens in another and hung them on my bedroom walls.

My fashion daughter who always made doll clothes had a case of them she no longer used as she constantly kept the dolls fitted in her new and latest creations. So, once again, I dismantled two frames, took the left over bathroom border and used it as background and glued all the little clothes to it. I then reassembled the frame with glass and all and hung those.

This was my bedroom wall art and it was simply beautiful. Not only was it beautiful but it made me realize that each of my daughters has a personality trait similar to my own. One daughter and her love for beautiful fashion and the other with her love or art. This certainly made me feel as if they were always with me, even as I slept.

However, my project was still not quite done. I still needed that live green as I have so often mentioned. So, of course I got a plant and a stand and placed it near my bedroom window, allowing it to feed off the light. But, stil yearning for that color, I needed some fabric orchards. I'm one of those people that simply adores full bouquets. So, I purchased some shallow wicker baskets that were pink from one of my favorite online spots, then purchased approximately 5 orchard bouquets that were in these square little glass vases. Removing the bouquets from the vases and placing them in the pink baskets and placing the basket on one nightstand, finally gave me my satisfactory effect.

However, I still had the little square vases. I simply took a few strips of the cut up pastel flannel sheet, soaked them in lavender oil, poured a little of the oil in the vases and stuffed the soaked sheet strips in the vases. I then took some colorful marbles and placed them in the vases on top of the strips adding color. I placed one of the vases on the other nightstand, one on my dresser, one in my closet shelf and another in my armour. By strategically placing the vases with the lavender scent around my room that way, I always had the calming effect of the oil whenever entering my room and carried it with me thru the day in my clothing, relieving me of stress on a constant basis.

As previously mentioned, these were my methods for creating my haven according to my taste. However, I hope they opened up your artistic and innovative gateways to allow you to create your individual havens. Below, as usual you will find a few links referencing where I obtained some of the items I used for creating my haven. I hope these links will be as useful to you as they are to me.

I sincerely appreciate everyone who reads and enjoys my little tidbits and idea and certainly hope you will all join me next week for my new blog subject on natural nutrition and ways to get the vitamins and minerals our bodies need. Of course from writing about decorating without the stress, many people have requested more information on juicing and natural nutrition. So, until next week, here's wishing everyone less stress and more relaxation.

Thanks Again

Happy Birthday Libras and Scorpios!

"There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October." — Nathaniel Hawthorne

October is your month! The cool air has settled in, the leaves are beginning to turn, and birds are high tailing it south for the winter. On the sports fronts, football is dominating the scene, hockey season begins and the World Series closes the baseball season. We get to enjoy an extra hour of sleep when the clocks are turned back on the 26th, not to mention a day off for Columbus Day on the 13th- that is, if you are (un)lucky enough to be employed by the government. And best of all, you were born! However, besides your birth, did you know many other important things took place in October?

October 1, 1908: The first Model "T" Ford was put on the market.
October 2, 1962: Johnny Carson premiered as the new host of “The Tonight Show.”
October 3, 1995: O.J. Simpson was found "not guilty" for the murders of Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman.
October 4, 1927: Barbara Walters started earning a $1,000,000 salary when she began co-anchoring the ABC evening news.
October 5, 1947: President Harry S. Truman made the first televised presidential address from the White House.
October 6, 1926: Babe Ruth set a new record in the World Series with 3 home runs.
October 8, 2004: Martha Stewart was sentenced to five months in prison.
October 10, 1845: The U.S. Naval Academy opened at Annapolis, MD.
October 11, 1975: "Saturday Night Live" premiered with George Carlin as the host.
October 12, 1492: Christopher Columbus landed in America.
October 13, 1792: The White House cornerstone was laid.
October 14, 1964: Dr. Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
October 17, 1931: Scarface Al Capone was found guilty of income tax evasion and sentenced to prison a week later.
October 23, 1915: 25,000 women marched up Fifth Avenue in New York City demanding the right to vote.
October 27, 1954: After being married less than 9 months, Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio divorced.
October 28, 1636: Harvard College was founded.
October 28, 1636: The Statue of Liberty was dedicated.
October 29, 1929: Known as Black Tuesday, the stock market crashed and lost billions.

Horoscope
Libra - September 24 through October 23
Easygoing Libra might feel some stress early in the month, but try not to get overwhelmed. Just use your characteristic charm and social skills, and your scales will regain balance before the middle of October. Stay competitive on the work front, yet when at home follow the lead of your loved one. Single Libra should hit the town for a night of flirtatious fun. Lucky day of the month: 12. Lucky color of the month: purple.

Scorpio - October 24 through November 22
Scorpio's powerful nature can be its own worst enemy. This month, embrace your determination but remember to tone it down a notch. Being too forceful can scare people away. When at work, try to keep your emotions out of picture when getting the job done. Those in a relationship must keep jealous tendencies at bay so your partner can appreciate your magnetic personality. Single Scorpio should treat its inner daredevil to an out-of-the-ordinary activity this month. Lucky day of the month: 25. Lucky color of the month: orange.

The Book Heal Thyself for Health & Longevity

Hi Everyone,

I realize that I'm out of character by posting another blog just one day after the previous, but this news is just too good to sit on. Many of you have read my blogs on redecorating your home without the cost and the stress. And, in writing these blogs, I have continuously mentioned and referred to a book which has helped me tremendously in dealing with stress, health and a more positive life outlook. I have given a link showing you the book, but many have asked how they can get it.

Well, today I ran across an ad of one of my partners and can you imagine, the book was there available for sale. So, I'm passing my good fortune to you. Just click the picture and you will be taken to your purchase destination.

And, just to give everyone an overview of the awesome thins you can expect to receive from this book, I have developed a list.

Beginning to Heal
Prepping your home as a healing space
Hydrotherapy Instructions
Natural Detoxification Instructions
How and When to Use Clay
Colors and their Significance
Oils and their healing ingredients
Juices and their uses
Herbs and their remedies

The aforementioned list is not nearly a fraction of all this book has to offer. I can testify that the juicing experience left me healthier, more energized, and more at peace. My health was better, my skin healthier, my hair and nails grew and my eyes became whiter as my anemia became more controlled to practically non existent. Not to mention, my blood pressure pills are sitting on the shelf collecting dust. My weight loss was amazing and these are just the benefits I gained from the juicing sections.

Through reading this book, I discovered places to shop and purchase organic. And, it did not cost me more than a normal trip to the grocery store. In addition, my items were delivered to my door fresh. When you have a moment, go to www.diamondorganics.com .

So to all my friends, especially the women, get this remarkable like changing book today. I have purchased it at least 12 times as so many people visit and walk off with it. I also sent my female family members who lead busy lifestyles copies too. But if you are going to get it, probably better do it before it sells out as the very last time I purchased it, I was put on a waiting list.

Just a short note, the author of this book also has another book entitled Sacred Woman. This book is more intense, but it is just as good.

Hope you all enjoy

Creating A Serene Bathroom & Hydrotherapy Experience

Shea Butter Body Bar
Detox Bath Salts

Welcome back everyone,

If you have been following my blog, you will have learned a few tips and tricks on redecorating your home with less stress and without spending a fortune

Decorating your bathroom can have the same effect. The bathroom is actually one of my favorite places. It's my alone place where I can kick back, relax in a nice bath and release pressures of the day. However, lets face reality. If you have a family, turning your bathroom into a lovely and serene environment can be a challenge. Keeping it that way can be an even bigger challenge. But, if you are lucky enough to haveyour own bathroom, the challenge has been drastically reduced. If not, lesson number one is teaching your family members to respect the space. You mess it up, you clean it up, plain and simple!

Recently, I moved into a new home with two bathrooms. My girls have one and the other is in my bedroom and a dream come true as they are both full bathrooms. My first goal was to turn my bathroom into a spa like experience. My primary reason for that was me moving from Burbank where I had a great choice of spas at my disposal to the sticks of Georgia where, lets just say after being here 4 months, I have yet to find one.

So, of course I set out to work trying to create my home spa experience without spending a fortune. The first task was to lay the foundation. The foundation for me were the walls and the floors. Now, I use to be one of those people who loved bathroom rugs, but let go of the idea years ago when sharing bathrooms with men and children. To me they were more work than I could keep up with, they held odor and they faded after constant washing to rid them of odor.

So, my starting place became the walls. If you read my previous blog, we spoke of colors and how various colors can affect our moods. So be sure to refer back to the previous blog for a reminder of what you want to feel when decorating your bathroom. My color choice happened to be purples in various shades. Purple stands for royalty, spiritualiy and are romantic yet delicate. These are all the feelings I tend to explore when retreating to my bath treatments. In addition, I wanted to mix the color green in there to add life.

The first thing I did was find warm and soft pastel colored purple floral wall borders with soft green vines. My favorite place for border shopping is http://www.borderstore.com/ . Mainly because they are inexpensive, they have a huge variety, they offer unique products and you can search by color. In addition, they are online and I can order right from my computer and receive exactly what they have shown.

In my originality, I decided not to place my borders at the top or the bottom of the wall, bt rather place them in the middle of the wall so that the visual would serve it's purpose as a soothing experience.

My next focus was the counters and cabinets. As we know, when using wall borders, there's always scraps left over. And since I chose a floral border, I cut the flowers out of the scraps left over and placed them all over the vanity and the cabinets. I also included the toilet tank and seat since I decided not to use bathroom rugs. Upon stepping back to review my work, it was as if the transformation had magically taken place and gave me the desired effects I'd been looking for.

The next thing I did for my bathroom was place a beautiful full green fern on the vanity area. That was indeed my missing touch of green. If many of you know about ferns, they thrive primarily on mist as a source of watering. The bathroom is the best place for this type of plants as the steam from your showers and baths will give you a beautiful, full luscious display of what a fern is really suppose to look like.

My next decor of choice were candles, and an oil burner which I found at http://www.stylistemporium.com/peteho.html . My reason for the candles and oil burner were not merely for display, but they indeed serve a purpose. The candles add a sense of serenity to the atmosphere and the oils in the oil burners provide an amazing aromatherapy, spa like experience.

My final touch in finishing my bathroom decorating was my large wicker basket on the floor with an array of purple, lavendar, light green and olive towels rolled up. These were my do not use towels, for the exception of a guest.

Of course there are so many things you can do with your bathroom and the aforementioned were just helpful hints. Remember , for ambiance add flowers, hanging plants, an inspirational framed poster and perhaps sayings. Make your bathroom beautiful and conducive so that it can help you do the work of releasing tension and poison toxins from head to toe.

For those of you who are new to hydrotherapy, it is often used to restore and purify with the use of water as a natural treatment. There are a few tools which will enable you to achieve this goal. Here is a list of my favorite items:

DreamLine Hydrotheraphy Shower Massage Column - Shower Head (easily attachable)
Loofah Brushes
Natural Bristle Back Brush
Eucalyptus Oil or Pepperment Oil (to open your pores for detoxification )
Lavandar Oil (for relaxation at night)
Almond Oil (softens skin)
Vitamin E Oil (for glowing radiance)
Candles
Epsom Salt (draws out toxins -use care if you suffer high blood pressure)
Dead Sea Salt

Taking warm water soaks can provide relaxation and clarity to the mind. Taking salt baths draw out egative toxic states, stress and anxiety, providing a calming serene state. You can easily convert your newly decorated bathroom into a hydrotherapy room by taking 1-4 pounds of epsom salt or 1-2 pounds of dead sea salt and putting it in your hot water bath. Start by lighting a white candle for clarity or a blue candle for serenity. Enter your bath with your salt water and lay back, relaxing and clearing your mind while releasing the days stressful events. As you relax for approximately 20 minutes, you may want to then add a couple of drops of lavander oil. Lean back amd breath in deeply thru your nose and then release. Do this deep breathing a couple more times and you will feel an amazing difference.

While soaking in the tub, drink a pint of lemon water. This will assist in releasing toxins and also kep you hydrated. You will notice how much you sweat. this is a good thing as your body is releasing all the toxins accumilated in your body. In addition, perform a deep, self massage from head to toe.

This is one form of detoxification, however, it's not a one time experience as it does take time to release your body of toxins as it took you a while to accumilate them. However, this will make you feel great and get you on your way. Your newly decorated bathroom and new relaxation tips are sure to give you the lift you need for our next redecorating topic.
